Karlštejn Castle is a huge Gothic castle founded in 1348 by Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and the King of Bohemia. It served as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia as well as the Bohemian Crown Jewels, holy relics, and important royal treasures. It is located about 30 kilometres (19 miles) southwest of Prague in the Beroun District of the Central Bohemian Region. Karlštejn is one of the most famous and most frequently visited castles in the Czech Republic. In the year 2024, it was visited by more than 147.000 visitors.
